New Publication Identifies Potato Diseases - April 1998

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA -- Various diseases of potatoes are identified and discussed in the new publication "Identifying Diseases in Pennsylvania" by Barbara J. Christ , associate professor of plant pathology at Penn State University.

Complete with dozens of color photos, the publication describes in-depth diseases ranging from late blight, early blight, silver scurf and black dot to gray mold, powdery scab, ring rot and verticillium wilt. For each of the 17 diseases, viruses and disorders included in the publication, symptoms are given along with disease cycling, conditions that promote the disease, disease look-alikes and management/control.

Various potato viruses such as Potato Virus Y and Potato Leaf Virus are also discussed in addition to physiological disorders like brown center and hallow heart.
