Specification for Basic Integrated Pest Management in Christmas Trees
The ‘Green Industry’ in Pennsylvania comprises over 25% of the state’s total agriculture sales.  As a part of the ‘green industry,’ conifer production in PA is ranked fifth in the nation, with a total of $41,763,000 in conifer and Christmas tree sales for 2003 (USDA, 2003).

Advanced IPM Specification for White Pine Weevil Control 10/19/07
A major economic pest facing Pennsylvania growers is the white pine weevil (WPW), Pissodes strobi, (Peck). It is the most damaging of the weevil pests associated with Christmas tree production and conifer nursery stock. This is a native insect attacking at least 20 different tree species, many of them valuable Pennsylvania tree species, such as Eastern white pine (Pinus strobus), Colorado blue spruce (Picea pungens), Norway spruce (Picea abies) and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii). Feeding damage from this pest results in dieback of the central leader and surrounding branches destroying the aesthetic value of the tree, making the tree unsuitable for sale.
